Bio.
Seb McDonald is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist with a clinical background in cardiac rehabilitation, cardiometabolic disease management, and exercise-based chronic disease care. Prior to joining CVS, Seb was the primary Exercise Physiologist at Healthy Hearts, where he worked extensively with patients living with coronary artery disease, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, hypertension, dyslipidaemia, diabetes and other chronic health conditions. This experience developed a strong foundation in prescribing safe and effective exercise for complex medical populations whilst working within multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
Seb's current role at CVS focuses on patients undergoing medical weight management, including those prescribed GLP-1 receptor agonists such as semaglutide and tirzepatide. His clinical approach extends beyond weight loss alone, with a strong emphasis on preserving skeletal muscle mass, improving physical function, enhancing cardiovascular fitness, and supporting long-term behaviour change. Through detailed assessment and ongoing monitoring of body composition, strength, function, physical activity and metabolic health markers, patients receive structured exercise interventions designed to optimise health outcomes during weight reduction.
In addition to his clinical experience, Seb was the lead Exercise Physiologist on the University of Western Australia's TREX (Tirzepatide and Resistance Exercise) study. This role involved delivering supervised resistance training interventions, collecting research outcomes, and working directly with participants throughout the trial. The project reinforced the critical role of resistance training in attenuating muscle loss during pharmacological weight management and highlighted the importance of social connection, accountability and community participation in long-term exercise adherence.
Seb provides individualised exercise assessment and prescription, supervised gym-based exercise, small group training and ongoing lifestyle coaching. Clinical areas of interest include obesity management, metabolic health, atrial fibrillation, cardiovascular disease, POTS and autonomic dysfunction, diabetes, healthy ageing, musculoskeletal health, and preventative medicine. His goal is to help patients safely build sustainable exercise habits whilst objectively tracking improvements in strength, body composition, physical function and overall health outcomes.
