Clinical Practice

Maria has a keen interest in obesity management and in improving patients' health and wellbeing through evidence-based care. She also values working in a team setting with dietitians and exercise physiologists to improve patients' overall health.  She enjoys taking time to discuss with her patients the benefits of improving metabolic health through both weight loss and lifestyle factors and in educating patients so they can optimise health.

Background & Training

Maria completed her medical degree at the University of Western Australia, graduating in 1993. She completed her internship and residency at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and a Diploma of Child Health at Princess Margaret Hospital . Maria then completed her General Practice training in Perth, obtaining her Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 1998. She worked as a GP in Perth for over 20 years. In 2009, Maria began working as a bariatric doctor and has worked in the bariatric field since then gaining experience in bariatric clinics across Perth.
